Z warriors assemble

And if you don’t get it, was your childhood even a childhood?

Dotted all over the world are a unique set of people whose reason for training was not rooted by reality TV, not a will to become healthier, nor to have control over mind, body and soul through discipline and training. But something deeper, more important, with decades worth of inspiration.

I am of course  talking about the legendary Dragon Ball Z (DBZ) , the 90’s Japanese anime and manga responsible for dodgy low quality videos of teenagers screaming for unnecessary prolonged periods of time in public on top of tables hoping to go blond (or red in the face, whichever comes 1st), but more importantly it was responsible for making the people like myself, that wanted to become superhuman like a Z warrior and complete amazing feats of strength.

As a kid I wasn't naturally gifted with athleticism my body and spatial awareness was terrible and everyone seemed to be better than me at everything physical, so it came to no surprise that in school I was heavily bullied from primary through to secondary and felt powerless to do anything about it because why fight a bully when you can’t fight? It’s just more pain plus a pathetic attempt in trying to succeed  and failing whilst looking stupid (which only adds to a bullies) ego.

But it wasn't until the day I had stumbled upon a book and read it the wrong way for the 1st time like a noob before I got into a mindset that would literally change my life, and that book was the manga, Dragon Ball (the lesser known storyline that came out before DBZ in the 80’s). I didn’t know about the Dragon Ball Z hype as I grew up on TV with 5 stations and most people I know didn’t know about Dragon Ball Z let alone the lesser known Dragon Ball manga, not that it matters because after convincing my dad to get me them I read them back to back for years, a great investment.

The correct way to read manga

What I loved about Dragon Ball, even more than DBZ, was the almost attainable superhuman achievements which seemed to be in reach if you was to train religiously like the main protagonists and that is exactly what I wanted, to be built to be unbreakable a force not to be reckoned with, no matter how strong the enemy or challenge presented and just like in DB if you are faced with a foe stronger than you, you train and train and still kept training until you overcome your foe and when you overcome your foe… you still train so they can never exceed you and you are ready for the next bigger and worthy challenge. That's what DB and DBZ was all about whilst also looking cool.

And it's with no surprise after reading DB and DBZ back to back over 10 times that then became my mindset to train and become superhuman like a Z warrior. But what is more surprising is the amount of people I know of that relate to this story of the DB franchise inspiring them to go beyond limits, modelling their life after the mindset of a Z warrior, training hard and never backing down becoming Super Saiyan in the process.

Greatness comes from within drawn out by your surroundings. What inspired you to train?
