patience
I wasn't too sure what to write about for this weeks post because some weeks feel like cycles of what I have previously written about and I have a feeling no one wants to read the same thing twice. So I didn’t worry too much about it as I have a whole week to think of an idea and create my take on it, then write a draft, re read it, rewrite it, grammar check it... Okay so not actually a lot of time left now I think about it but I still didn’t stress, instead I waited for the idea to come to me while I was training and living life then the idea hit me.
Patience (to me) is the ability to wait unknowingly for the outcome hoping it’s the one you predicted.
Patience with no work involved is waiting in vain. Working with no patience is to work in vain.
I have done calisthenics for 4 years now and have been forever growing exceeding limits I never thought I would whilst still believing I should be so much further than what I ought to be. And while it's great to think that as it can be a drive for forever growing and attaining higher heights this mentality can be quite toxic and was part of the reason I was not further to what I wanted or expected.
I was working with no patience and bombarding my muscles with the wrong work outs in vain and I didn't get what I wanted, never allowing myself to be patient so I could step back and analyse what was right or wrong. Trying to snatch what I wanted as quick as I could and because I didn't get it I would then do nothing and wait patiently in vain eating junk or next to nothing.
When I learnt to be patient while working that's when I saw dramatic improvement. To learn to do a handstand I have to patiently wait to attain the move to the point I can replicate the movement as easily and consistently I would a pull up. But whilst patience plays a big part I also need to put the correct work in, handstand drills, wrist stretches, correcting form and consistency.
When I learnt patience. To wait and do it correctly, I achieve so much more, learn so much more and enjoy the journey.
Do you think you are patient?
